Powder Coating
Our most common finish. Powder coating is a thermoset polymer applied as an electrically-charged dry powder that bonds to a grounded metal part, then cures in the oven into a hard, uniform skin.
How it works
The part is media-blasted to open the pores of the metal, grounded, then sprayed with an electrically-charged powder that clings to the surface. It cures in a dedicated oven and the powder melts and bonds into the metal — forming a single integrated coating, not just a surface layer.
Why powder instead of paint
- 2–6× thicker than traditional paint for a single coat, and 6–10 mils for multi-coat builds
- Impregnates the pores opened by media blasting — substantially better adhesion
- Physically harder film — much better scratch and chip resistance
- Bonds into the metal, so rust can't creep out from a scratch the way it does under paint
Common parts
- Auto and motorcycle — frames, wheels, trim, suspension and driveline components, intake manifolds
- Indoor and outdoor furniture, trim, and yard pieces
- Restoration work — gas pumps, antique wrought iron, milk jugs
- Virtually any metal part that won't see sustained high heat
